Freeport Friends was founded by Tawni Whitney, a Freeport Town Councilor, and longtime Freeport resident. Tawni originally founded The Freeport Chapter of the Neighbor Brigade to help families in Freeport who are facing crisis, and support seniors in Freeport age in place. As her work with the Brigade grew, and more needs started to pour in, Tawni brought two more Freeport residents onboard to help with her efforts: Leslie Davidson, and Meghan Palmer. Together, Tawni, Meghan, and Leslie, developed Freeport Friends. As growth continues, a non-profit 501(c)3 is in the works and a board is being established. Stay tuned...
Tawni is a longtime Freeport resident, and a member of the Freeport Town Council. She worked for years as a case worker in the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, and the University of Maine’s Edmund S. Muskie School advocating for children. In addition to the town council, Tawni is also a member of the Freeport Municipalities Board, the RSU5 Backpack Program, The Freeport Arts and Culture Committee, and the Freeport Sustainability Committee. Tawni, and her husband, Steve, have 3 active children who have solidified their commitment and love for the Freeport Community.
Meghan is a native Mainer who has called Freeport home for over 10 years. She is a Graphic Designer and an active member of various community groups, including Freeport Community Services, The Freeport Elementary Parent Teacher Committee, The Freeport Historical Society, and the the Harraseeket Yacht Club Youth Sailing Program. Meghan, and her husband, Ben, have two boys, Graham and Fred, and a dog, Morty.
A designer and California transplant, Leslie moved to Maine in search of a more relaxed pace of life. She has been active in the Freeport community, volunteering for the Freeport historical Society, the Harraseeket Yacht Club, and over a shared love of yoga and a dear elderly couple, she met Tawni and Meghan and jumped at the chance to get involved with the Freeport Friends group.
On any given day off, you might find Leslie horseback riding or hiking along many of Maine's gorgeous beaches and trails, sailing or relaxing at home with her husband, Jonathan, and their two spoiled dogs, Ben and Carla.
